FRAUNHOFER INSTITUTE FOR COMPUTER GRAPHICS

The Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics (Fh-IGD) is most dedicated to eLearning and Knowledge Management in the Fraunhofer society. The IGD department ‘eLearning & knowledge management’ has profound expertise in project coordination and in all aspects of eLearning: learning management systems, content creation and services.

The department ‘eLearning & knowledge management’ was involved in the EU-projects DEDICATED and IDEALS, where the SCORM modular training system MTS has been developed. This system has been further developed and serves as an advanced R&D system in large-scale applications: in WiBA-Net (materials in construction), furthermore a Germany-wide repository for re-usable multimedia eLearning content was developed with search engine and metadata. For sgd, Germany's largest distance learning school provider the system waveLearn on top of MTS was developed, which is now in use by more than 8.000 users.

The department ‘eLearning & knowledge management’ has further developed MTS in the IGD-GMD fusion projects eQualification framework (eQF) and Media@Train. Here, IGD has also co-ordinated the project with 20 resp. 10 partners and more than 40 participants.

PARTNER'S ROLE IN UNITE

Fh-IGD Department A6 “eLearning & knowledge management” will coordinate the UNITE project. The department has profound expertise in project coordination and in all aspects of eLearning, learning management systems, content creation and services. Fh-IGD A6 was involved in the EU-projects DEDICATED and IDEALS, where the modular training system MTS has been developed. This system has been further developed and serves as an advanced research prototype. Besides the coordination of the UNITE project, Fh-IGD will lead the system design, and be responsible for all UNITE system issues concerning MTS. Regarding dissemination and exploitation, Fh-IGD will use its solid experience in successfully exploiting research outcomes, as well as its memberships to international networks, and its links to the largest commercial distance learning company in Germany.
