Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) is the largest technical university in the Baltic States. It contains 13 faculties, gymnasium, 10 institutes, Distance Education Study Centre. The Informatics Faculty of KTU consists of 7 departments, Information Technologies Implementation Centre (ITIC) and Computer Literacy Centre. Scientists work in several research groups according research areas: development and application of methods and technologies of informatics engineering, e-learning, research in the ripe software engineering process implementation methodology, meta-design and meta-programming in the fields of web applications development, creation of academic multimedia repository and electronic publishing system in Lithuania, computational models and algorithms.
Informatics Faculty was involved in developing the programme of ICT use in education, creation the curricula of schools and the definition of requirements for teachers’ qualification investigated the general computer literacy in the country and has carried out the research of educational portal needs in Lithuania.
Informatics faculty KTU has leaded the national projects supported by EU: Information Technologies For Science And Higher Education (ITMis), Lithuanian Information System of Science and Studies (LieMSIS), The Storage And Presentation For Users The E-Resources Of Science And Studies, Virtual Library of Lithuania and others. KTU participated in many international research projects funded by FR6, FR5, FR4, Phare, Leonardo da Vinci, TEMPUS, EUREKA, COPERNICUS.
