The R&D achievements and advances expected in UNITE can be summarized as a set of six concrete and measurable objectives:

  • The development of an adequate pedagogical framework, which will:
    • allow the daily use of the UNITE platform in the schools’ classrooms.
    • provide a solid theory for the UNITE eLearning scenarios.
    • enhance the learning experience with the use of ICT.

  • The parallel development of an innovative eLearning IT platform, which will:
    • provide adequate communication and cooperation facilities for the schools.
    • support the use of mobile devices in learning.
    • empower the access of re-usable learning objects and experiences.

  • The definition of innovative eLearning scenarios based on the pedagogical framework, which will:
    • enable the use of the UNITE IT platform in the schools.
    • improve the pupils’ learning motivation as well as the learning success.

  • The development of a Europe-wide repository of re-usable eLearning content, placed within the UNITE IT platform.

  • The development of an adequate validation framework including the organization and implementation of appropriate validation activities, in order to prove the validity of the technological and pedagogical developments.

  • The investigation of the sustainability and the degree of the wider deployment of UNITE by schools in Europe through the creation of the UNITE network of schools and a detailed socio-economic evaluation of UNITE, as well as a carefully designed exploitation plan.
