ICT in Education (under Biology area)
Hebrew and English Language School “Dimcho Debelianov”, Sofia
Implemented: 1.05 – 30.05.2007

The scenario is adaptation of ICT scenario described in D5.1. It was implemented by Plamen Petrov – ICT teacher and Emilia Ilova – biology teacher.
The scenario goal is to develop students’ presentational skills creating a presentation on a given topic in Biology. The scenario was realized at the end of the school year with 10-th grade students (16-17 years). The topic was Summary of the learned Biology subject during the year. The scenario presents a group work on the following subtopics:

  1. The Human Eye
  2. Paleontology
  3. Prokaryotic Cell
  4. Origin of Live

Using the UNITE workspace teachers provided guidance (ppt presentation, forum and chat discussion) about how to deliver good presentation. The final stage of implementation students delivered their presentation. The products were evaluated by both – ICT and Biology teachers. The ICT teacher (Mr. Petrov) evaluated the design of presentation document and Mrs. Ilova – the quality of content. Teachers provided directions and evaluation for the way of delivering final presentations.
After implementation the scenario teachers and student share their opinion that the work was a good challenge for them and the results are more than satisfying.

    

  

 

English language – Students facilities in the Faculty of Physics
National High School of Mathematics and Science, Sofia
Implemented: 09.05 – 15.06.2007

The scenario was implemented by English teacher Elizabeth Shopolova with 9-th grade students (15 – 16 years).
The scenario goals are to introduce basic English vocabulary related to the university student’s life. Another aim of the scenario is to improve students’ skills for team working, gathering information and making a choice. The goals achievement will be supported by learning resources (mp3, doc files) containing examples and guidelines.
During the implementation students should visit the Faculty of Physics of University of Sofia and to discover the students’ facilities it offers. They had to localize main students’ centers (using mediaBoard), interview university students and professors.
As a learning resources pupils used developed by LiNK eLearning content for the English language scenario.
The final students product was an essay under the topic Where do you prefer to study (Compare possibilities for students' life in the Rostock University and Sofia University)?

        

 

New ICTs – visiting BAIT Expo 2007
National High School of Mathematics and Science, Sofia
Implemented: 12.11 – 30.11.2007

The Scenario improves the traditional ICT lessons by visiting the annual exposition of the Bulgarian Association in Information Technologies BAIT Expo 2007.
The scenario is designed for the 15-16 years old students having technological aptitude. It is planned for team work and it will be integrated in the curriculum. The scenario includes visiting the exposition, observation and searching for new ICTs in three different area – hardware, software and communication.
As a final product the student class should produce three posters – one in each area.
Group work and role playing are used as pedagogical methods for developing good team work skills as well as the ICT subject attitude.

      

 

Ecosystems
Hebrew and English Language School “Dimcho Debelianov”, Sofia
Implemented: 29.11 – 15.12.2007

The scenario was realized in 10-th grade students (16 – 17 years) by the Biology teacher Mrs. Emilia Ilova and ICT teacher Mr. Plamen Petrov.
In this scenario the students work in groups. They observe real ecosystem and collect artefacts about it. The main activity is accomplished in dedicated site visiting. The final product should be internet based interactive lesson. In principle the content (topic) of the lesson fall under biology subject area but the ICT skills of the students are also developed by composing of a web page or a little website. The pedagogical approach in this scenario puts emphasis on collaborative problem solving through social interaction and it is informed by a constructivist pedagogical approach. The active learning methods are included also: searching for new information about a given topic, exploration of the topic and result analysis.

        

 

English language – The Travelling Broadens the Mind
National High School of Mathematics and Science, Sofia
Implemented: 25.11 – 22.12.2007

The scenario is organised for 10th grade students. It was implemented by the experienced UNITE teacher Ms. Elizabeth Shopolova with assistance of new UNITE teachers Mrs. Kapka Petrova and Mrs. Zlatka Ivanova.
The scenario goals are to introduce basic English vocabulary related to the traveling, accommodation, location of places, etc. another aim of the scenario is to improve students’ informational skills – searching for appropriate information, gathering the valuable information, extracting the main topics and ideas. The goals achievement are supported by learning resources – text, pictures, and questionnaires.
Students used the UNITE system to find recourses, to upload results, to communicate with other students and the teacher. Learning language using the UNITE broadens the students’ culture and imagination.
