Cross-curricular scenario “Croatia in European transportation flows”
Elementary school Spinut, Croatia
Implemented: 15.05 – 30.05.2007
Cross-curricular scenario was the first scenario prepared and implemented by elementary school “Spinut”. Two teachers, Geography and History teacher Zoran Ljubić and Physics teacher Ljilja Kodrić with the assistance from the school’s pedagogue Fadila Zoranić developed their “own” scenario (meaning they didn’t customised one of the three UNITE exemplar scenarios). Topics from the National Curriculum Plan and Program for elementary schools were selected and integrated into e-/m-Learning scenario: (i) “Transportation systems and transport connectivity of Europe” from Geography; (ii) “Transformation of inner energy through work and heat” and non-compulsory (iii) “Energy and energetics” from Physics. The two teachers collaborated in order to specify the tasks, the questions for the test, decide on Forum topics etc. Scenario is intended for 13 and 14-year-old pupils attending one 7th grade class.
The scenario implementation started in mid May 2007 and lasted about two weeks.
Pupils used their mobile phones in order to collect data using mediaBoard (later to be used as illustrations or information in their presentations) and to communicate with each other. They worked in groups of five and collaboratively made decisions about their roles and individual responsibilities, the approach to group work, the structure of their presentations etc. They used UNITE platform to agree on the abovementioned aspects and/or organise work. Pupils were encouraged to take more active role, the role of researchers and to come up with their own solutions and suggestions to questions prepared by their teacher. While preparing the scenario, the teacher considered collaborative and exploratory learning principles as well as blended learning and active learning techniques.
Both teachers and pupils were very pleased with UNITE, e-learning and m-learning in general.

ICT scenario “Teaching multimedia”
Elementary school Spinut, Croatia
Implemented: 22.05 – 30.05.2007
ICT scenario was the second scenario prepared and implemented by elementary school “Spinut”. ICT teacher Ante Dušan Botica customised one of the three UNITE exemplar scenarios, the ICT one. He chose the topic “Teaching multimedia” and has given his pupils the teacher’s role: they had to prepare their presentations like they were supposed to teach novice ICT users about creating multimedia (either younger pupils or elderly people).
The scenario implementation started in the last week of May 2007 and lasted about a week.
Advanced group of 12 pupils from 3 different 8th classes (mostly 14 year-olds) were supposed to develop multimedia presentations that could be used to teach certain “Multimedia” topic to pupils of 5th and 6th classes of elementary school (11 and 12 year-olds) as well as other interested persons. Pupils worked and collaborated in pairs within a given timeframe and produced standardised presentations based on their tasks.
Pupils were given a well structured master, template file with suggested design and structure of their presentation (including revision, introducing the topic, examples, conclusion, summary, questions etc). The pedagogical approach in this scenario puts emphasis on collaborative problem solving through social interaction and it is informed by a constructivist approach to pedagogy.
