Scenario: The human being - Nutrition and digestion

The scenario was implemented at Erasmus Gymnasium. The scenario imparts knowledge about the human being and its nutrition and digestion for a class 7th grade. The scenario is based on a course (via Infopool) and uses different types of learning. All learning activities will take place in the classroom, but there is a mixture of individual and group work, of reading, writing, doing quizzes, carrying out experiments. The course was developed by using all different types of learning materials, (graphics, texts) that would normally be used in paper form. This scenario supports autonomous and collaborative learning. The learning targets are cognitive (knowledge), affective and psychomotor skills

Scenario: IP Addressing

The scenario was implemented in BSEE/Berufliche Schule für Elektronik/Elektrotechnik) The scenario imparts knowledge of network technologies like Topology, OSI-7-layer model, Network protocol (TCP/IP-Protocol-Stack). In a first phase students will work through the course at home or in the computer lab. Then they will test their knowledge using the tasks in the course (task area in UNITE) in small groups at the computer, results will be presented in the classroom. For communication and collaboration students will use the chat. Teacher will moderate if necessary. Teaching situation: The Scenario took place in two classes in parallel in a period of two weeks.

Scenario: Social Sciences -Youth crime

The scenario was implemented at Erasmus GymnasiumThe scenario imparts knowledge about the law resp. criminal law and youth crime in Germany. The scenario starts with rights and duties of young people in a democratic society and is passing into youth crime, its causes, its prevention and how to deal with it. The scenario is mixing work with the platform and group work in the classroom to a blended learning scenario. The platform will be used mainly as a content repository (accessible from everywhere at any time) and as a communication means. At the end a chat with experts from three areas (police, justice and social work) will take place (using 3 different workspaces).

Scenario: University for freshman students

The learning scenario described below takes place in three locations as follows: 1) in class, 2) at home/computer laboratory and 3) in a particular context outside the school (e.g. at the University of Rostock, University Campus etc).

The context will familiarise pupils with vocabulary used in everyday situations related to the general theme “University for freshman students – an Introduction” interpretation of such exchanges and social interaction. Within the framework of this scenario, pupils receive individual tasks which are recorded on a mobile device (palm computer), words and phrases used in particular situations, surroundings, dialogues as conducted in real situations. The field trip is fully integrated within the foreign language course curriculum.

The teacher would have already discussed with the pupils tasks related to the field trip, she would have uploaded the information online and other tasks quizzes, exercises, etc on the UNITE platform. Pupils would have also been instructed how to collect the necessary information. The objective of the scenario is to gather and practise vocabulary, phrases or idiomatic expressions as used in a real situation with native speakers of the foreign language. The expected learning outcome is that pupils extend their vocabulary, improve listening comprehension, and practise the foreign language in a real social situation.
In particular pupils will learn vocabulary and phrases related to University and Study, will be able to communicate/to interview students and professors and provide information about the hometown.
To reach these goals, pupils collect material in English about the University and the city of Rostock, which can be used as resource material for English speaking students at the University’s Website hold short interviews with native speaking students and professors about their interests, their plans etc. (create, write, execute)

The UNITE project is partially supported by the European Community under the
